You can’t go for your max lift every week. Hell, you shouldn’t even go for 80% of your max lift every week. What you need is progression, and sometimes that means stripping down the weight and focusing on technique.
If the proper technique isn’t there for any of your major compound lifts, you’re eventually going to plateau. Building in technique weeks for your training can be a major influencer of progress!
With a new block of training starting on Monday, I spent last week focusing on form. In this video, I worked on my deadlift with a few cues in mind.
1. Take in as deep of a breath as possible before each pull.
2. Tuck my lats before initiating the pull. This helps keep my back tight and get my shoulders above/behind the bar.
3. Rip the bar off the floor with good form. All about speed once the bar leaves the floor.
I’m excited to see how this translates into the next block of training. By the end of this next block, I’ll be pulling weights that are right at or above my previous one-rep max!
