“I want to feel healthy. What can I do?”
Great question! Here’s what I’d suggest…
There are four things that you should be able to adopt quickly sand easily in order to get healthier and feel better.
1. Drink Water
We constantly underestimate the power of proper hydration for our overall well being. Try and drink half your weight in ounces of water. That’s a great place to start with setting a goal for hydration. From there, you can slowly progress to drink more.
Water is easy to track. You can find water bottles with ounces listed on them pretty easily and for little cost. From there, figure out how many of those bottles you need to drink a day.
Water will flush your system, make you feel more energized, and generally just improve your health.
2. Get Sunshine
Every day, try and get some sun on your skin. I don’t mean lay out and tan for hours. I mean experience sunshine (preferably to start your day). As human beings, we’re designed to wake up with the sun. We’re designed to go to sleep when the sun goes down, too.
Now, for the average American, that’s probably unrealistic. However, it’s not a stretch to find a way to get 10-15 minutes of sun exposure each day. You’ll feel more energized and take in some of that prized vitamin D we always hear about.
Getting sunshine might be something you can easily pair with No. 3…
3. Create Blood Flow
Blood is life. We need to do things that promote blood flow throughout the body, like going for walks or runs, taking a bike ride, lifting weights, etc. This blood flow circulates nutrients throughout the body and greatly improves our overall health.
A simple strategy to accomplish this is to plan a couple 10-minute walks each day. Every work place encourages you to get up out of your chair and stretch your legs. Take advantage of that and step outside for a few 10-minute walks each day. It will get your blood flowing and help you to feel energized.
4. Get Uninterrupted Sleep
Go to sleep on time and stay sleeping the entire time. I’m talking 7-8 hours a night, every night.
As Americans, we seriously struggle to get in an appropriate amount of sleep each day. If you do this constantly, you may start to throw off your hormones and just generally feel more sluggish and lack alertness.
Forget the show you love to watch at 11 p.m. Put down the phone — whatever is happening on Twitter while you’re laying in bed ain’t that important!
Prioritize your sleep.
A little self-discipline is involved here, but it’s nothing earth shattering. Adopt these four things — that’s my challenge to you! And let me know how it helps!
